Everyone talks about safety. Big J lives it every day. It is important to our leadership and all our employees. We know it is important to our customers. Safety is not an add-on, it is central to our work culture. Continuous training, inspection and feedback keeps Big J Incident and Injury Free.

Safety begins at the top

Our CEO Dick Teater has worked on and managed large projects all over the world. He knows that safety consciousness is an every day priority. Safety is taught, managed and demanded at every level of Big J.

 Safety Starts in the Classroom

All new employees at Big J are given OSHA 10 training.  Employees are taught that lack of accidents doesn't necessarily mean a safe workplace. Big J's Safety Manager, Robert Martinez, is responsible for ongoing training, orientation, inspection and feedback to employees. At our operations for the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer, our Senior Safety Adviser Morgan DeMaroney was named one of the Heros & Legends of their worldwide manufacturing operations.

Every morning at every job site, a safety inspection is held and workers are briefed on potential safety hazards. The highly complex environment of semiconductor manufacturing is filled with delicate and expensive machinery as well as highly toxic chemicals and acids. Safety standards are aggressively monitored by our customer so we are accustomed to meeting and exceeding tough safety requirements. All employees, no matter how senior, skilled, or productive, who do not comply with our safety expectations are warned, given an opportunity to improve and if still noncompliant, they are dismissed. No level of skill or productivity can offset the human and financial cost of unsafe work practices for themselves, and their fellow workers.

Big J is proud of its safety record and the many industry awards and acknowledgements it has received. Awards are nice, but we are most proud of our steadily declining EMR rate (.71) and we have NEVER had to inform a wife or loved one of an employees demise.
