Organizational Competencies
In every business, the relentless pressure to improve productivity and reduce waste requires leveraging technology. Big J has invested heavily in technology to give its people the tools they need to be as efficient and effective as possible.
Information Technology
As Big J has expanded geographically, we have supported remote offices with optimized wide area network connections, local servers and telecommunications. Desktop and laptop systems are upgraded regularly to insure that people have the tools they need.
MasterBuilder Enterprise Platform
As Big J has grown, it became increasingly critical to select and commit to a platform which would integrate estimating, purchasing, scheduling, accounting and project management. A platform that would give Big J employees end-to-end visibility on all projects across the enterprise. In 2001 Big J selected MasterBuilder as that platform. Knowing the difficulties and dangers in implementing an ERP system, Big J hired Brent Olsen, a young computer-savvy engineer, to manage the implementation project. Big J now tracks its projects from proposal to turnover on this system. Having data entered only once into a fully integrated database maximizes employee productivity,
minimized errors and provides a level of project and corporate visibility impossible with traditional management systems.
Seamless Technology Initiatives
As part of the ongoing Seamless Team improvement efforts, Big J employees are constantly looking for new ways to leverage technology for collecting and utilizing information just in time and facilitating communication and knowledge transfer.
