Big J maintains a full time estimating department, staffed by techical experts who have grown up in the trades and understand how the work actually gets done. Our estimating department knows from experience how to read between the lines in a set of plans and to identify potential problems before they occur.

No manager in charge of construction likes surprises. Our estimating department focuses on constructability, value engineering and material availability to minimize the likelihood of change orders downstream. Accurate and complete estimates is your assurance of a job done right, on time and on budget.

Estimating - Where Successful Projects Begin

Big J's ability to run highly competitive and productive projects begins with our estimating group. Under Steve Lyle, Estimating Manager, the estimating department does much more than just parts take-offs and apply standard labor factors. Because Steve came up through the trades and project management, the estimating team looks at each project in holistic way and looks at the labor of the whole project flow. This approach gives Big J the ability to do just-in-time material planning and purchasing to maximize efficiency of cash flow and minimize material storage and transport costs.

Unlike most contractors who are in and out of a project, our long-term relationships with our clients means we can learn what information you want, how you want it formatted and presented and what platforms you use. This way we can learn what you need in the way of information and when you need it so we can tailor our delivery to your requirements, not just what's convenient for us.

At Big J estimating isn't something we do just at the beginning of the job. Our estimating department stays close to the job at every step. Our Master Builder construction management platform gives our estimators the ability to monitor costs in close to real time, work closely with the owners on every stage of the project, estimate change order costs and finalize change orders with the clients.

But we don't limit ourselves to Master Builder. We utilize Primavera, MS Project, and other tools to make sure we can give you the information in a useful form and leverage the full visibility that technology gives to our project management staff.
